Coffee is a beverage close to the hearts of many Canadians – who doesn’t love their morning Timmies? Helping us get up in the morning and start our day, coffee provides a necessary boost for many. At the same time, coffee can be a nuisance. Along with teeth staining, coffee is also remarkably good at staining carpets if you accidentally spill it. If you are looking for ways to get rid of a coffee stain, then you are in luck! Let’s take a moment to look at a fool proof way you can remove that coffee once and for all.

  1. Clean Up Excess Coffee

When it comes to cleaning up a coffee stain, timing is everything. Begin by taking a moist paper towel over to the spill. Use it to absorb as much of the extra liquid as you can. Do not rub the carpet with the paper towel, as this will only make it harder to remove in later steps. Simply blot the area.

  1. Consider the Type of Carpet You Have

Is your carpet relatively new or an antique? Take a moment to look up your carpet and see what the material is made out of. This will give you an idea as to whether or not it may need to be taken care of by a professional. When you have arrived at a cleaning solution, be sure to try it out on a far corner of the rug. If it does not leave a stain of its own, then you can try it directly on the stain.

  1. Create the Cleaning Solution

Add a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent to two-thirds of a cup of warm water. You can also substitute out the dishwashing detergent for a third of a cup of vinegar. Another thing to consider is whether or not the coffee has milk in it. If it does, then you will want to make sure you are mixing in an enzyme laundry detergent.

  1. Begin Cleaning

With either a sponge or a paper towel, dip it into the mixture and then begin dampening the stained area of the carpet. Once some of the coffee has been absorbed, repeat the process. It may help for you to switch between whatever detergents you have and vinegar as well.

  1. What To Do Next

If you still have a stain (even after several attempts) then consider hiring a professional carpet cleaner. They will have more powerful techniques specifically created to ensure the safety of the carpet.
